Default F1/F1B/Multi-Gen - what's the difference? do you have a preference?

We are interested in adopting a labradoodle puppy and have been doing a lot of reading and it seems like the main difference between the F1/F1b/Multi-gen is the shedding/allergy issue. Are there other differences we should be aware of? (F1Bs seem to be a bit more expensive - I assume b/c they shed less?) In terms of coat, we care less about shedding than about appearance. From the pictures we've seen, it seems like some labradoodles have straighter shaggy hair, while others have what seems like a curlier (although it seems to be called wavy?) coat. Is this an F1/F1b difference? What else should we consider when making the F1/F1b decision? Thanks for any info!

it all depends on the genes, but f1 is a first generation, and f1b is that back bred to poodle to end with a 3/4 poodle. I have never owned the F1B, but I am happy with Winston, shedding under control (almost non existent), and compared with the curlier type of fur, the F1 has a benefit in that it is easier to clean.. by that I mean when you hike through forests, grasses twigs, etc can be brushed out much easier. I also personally like the shaggy dog look.
It really comes down to what you would personally like

grading scheme of labradoodles

until ALF3 you are still risking shedding, so it depends on what you find important.

From my research and our recent purchase, we are partial to the Australian doodle because of their consistent temperament and non shedding and low producing saliva, which is also an allergen. I have allergies and like to sleep with fur free sheets!

The Australian doodles are actually more expensive than the F1s or F1Bs...the starting price for a true Australian labradoodle is 2500...expensive...but mine came with his neutering, a microchip, and a blood panel to show health, also he had is first round of shots...

but unless you don't need a more calm and chill pup, a doodle is a doodle, they love the same!! Both are intelligent and easily trained!

good luck!!
