Default Help! wanting a labradoodle

I have been researching labradoodles and wanting one for our family, when I go to other post boards I am hearing a lot of negative reviews about being hyper and other problems. Wanting to hear some good reviews. Thanks

They obviously don't own or never have owned one. Its rare to find good "reviews" on anything. People tend to spread negativity easier than they can spread positivity. People here actually own or are interested in the dog!

Any dog that is not trained can get a bad review.
Bogart is one of the BEST dogs I have ever owned, so people that call them hyper etc. just don't know a doodle.
Let me give you just ONE example of what a doodle can do. Bogart is a Service Dog for me, works with Downe Syndrome and Autistic Children and is a therapy dog at a local hospital.
He has gone to Church with me since he was a pup.
Now......where do you NOT want a hyper dog with "other" problems? CHURCH!
Last night we went to the Easter Vigil. For 2 solid hours, Bogart slept on the floor in the first row and he had had NO exercise all day due to a busy schedule. He was PERFECT!
Nope! No one could convince me of a doodle, like any dog who is trained, is hyper and has problems.
IMO........THEY ARE THE BEST!
I absolutely loved my other dogs..........but I will forever have a doodle!!

We couldn't be happier with our Daisy!! Does she have a good amount of energy? Yes! But she's also only one year old still and even still, we don't consider her hyper and noone has ever told us that about her when they come over or meet her. She's such a good girl, so kind and loving. As long as she's exercised and gets to chase the ball every day she's perfect with her energy level. She gets cooped up at times just due to rotten winter/spring midwest weather, but even then she's a good girl, just acts like a toddler at times (gets in the bathroom garbage, etc, nothing horrible). She definitely is more playful and energetic than our old Golden Retriever was, but she laid around our house like an old sock, LOL!!! We haven't taken Daisy for any formal/professional training, but if we feel like she's starting to get hyper, etc we most certainly will. So far, she's very smart and we've been able to train her ourselves. The only thing I have heard, which could be another nasty rumor/myth is that sometimes Golden Doodles can be more hyper/energetic. I have a few neighbors with them and they are more energetic than Daisy, so not sure if that's by chance or if there's some truth to that rumor. Anyway, we just love our Labradoodle to pieces, she's a wonderful companion and just loves being with us We couldn't be happier with the breed, the personalities of these dogs is just wonderful.

That's awesome, daisy's mom! She sounds like a typical, adorable, fun and loving doodle................and I will ALWAYS have one! They are just the coolest dogs in the world, IMO.
I have heard and seen some Goldendoodles that describe that rumor......IMO, it depends on the owner and their training ability.

The temperament of the parents used in creating the doodle mean a lot in determining if it will be hyper or not. If they come from working lines or field lines, they will have a huge energy and working drive which can lead to hyper behavior without a proper outlet. You can get calmer lines for creating your doodles, for example if they come from service lines. These cannot be hyper. Jac (a doodle breeder in CA) has successfully placed over 20 doodles as service dogs and that testifies to being able to create calm, stable, not hyper doodles.

Great "hearing" you, Todd!

Riverbend also produces many service dogs and that's where Bogart came from.
He has tons of energy for play and tons of stamina for being calm in the right places when he's working.
Right now, at this moment, he's flat out on his side sleeping and hasn't even come in the kitchen for breakfast because he worked a lot this week and also played with some buddies. Knocked him out!
But in an instant, he could giddy-up and GO!
I LOVE his personality!

if Toby was any calmer..he d be walking backwards..

much of the criticism come s from people who have never been
with a labradoodle, never had a dog..and if they did they may not have had a very good experience..*with not fault of the dog*..and then theres those who have gripes against cross breed dogs, not realizing that all dogs were once a cross breed..

Its nice to have a moment to check back in and say Hi. Hope all is going well. I feel bad I can't be here more but school is really demanding on my time. I'll pop by a little more often and check things out.

a dog is what you make them, a labradoodle isn't any different

Default Love my Doodle

I too read many bad "reviews" of doodles when I was researching the breed. But then I spoke with a few owners and met a few labradoodles and I was SOLD!

They are AWESOME dogs. Great companions. My girl Abby is up for anything; biking, swimming, jogging, fetch or frisbee, or just watching a movie at home on the couch. She is content as long as she is with her people. (And she thinks she's a lap dog @ 55 pounds!)

As far as being hyper, I see chihuahuas and pomeranians that are way more hyper than my one year labradoodle. Abby gets two 45 minute jogs everyday plus some fetch time and that seems to be perfect for her.

She was so easy to train, housetraining took a matter of a week basically. And she can do lots of tricks and you can tell she enjoys showing them off too. She's had free range of the house since she was 5 months old and I have never come home to see that she has gotten in the garbage or chewed my favorite shoes.

I think as long as you look into the breeder before purchasing, you will find that labradoodles are wonderful wonderful dogs. A great addition to any family.

And pretty darn cute too, if you ask me!!

Our old Barney was a great dog, yes he had a lot of energy, but he had a run everyday and was great in the house with a family of little kids.

He was a first (accidental) cross and his mum was a hunting lab, but even so he was great. Not hyper, but energetic, and so easy to train.
