Our Brinly came from Riverbend too! In the past we've had a yorkie, mixed breed lab, full blooded choc. lab and she is by far the best dog we've ever had. She fits so well into our family..we are quite active but we also enjoy our downtime. She is happy to snuggle or romp through the woods/snow with us. She is so intelligent and loving/gentle. I think alot of it has to do with breeding and training. We can't imagine life without her. She is amazing!

evfc,
I have 16 month old Australia labradoodle standard size he is 27kg at the moment so no lap dog. Sitting a watching TV in the evening he will be sitting on my wifes lap, where he will roll on his back to get his tummy tickled, MY GOD he s the size of a small bear. As everyone will attest too, these guys have personality PLUS and each have their own little qwerks but most of all they love being with us humans. I have some nieces and nephews that come around all the time, one thing i have noticed with Cody , i had one niece come around about 3 months ago and she had not met Cody and only being 4 she was scared of his size. Cody went up too her twice but she backed right off and hid behind my sister, while we were sitting around having a coffee i noticed Cody on his belly crawing across the family room floor (like no one could see him) he crawled under the coffee and sat at the feet of my niece and start licking her shoe. Long story short they are best of friends now (dont mind admitting it bought a tear too my eye's) Labradoodles are smart, loving, funny , crazy and just bloody enjoyable I could sit here all day and tell you how many times this little guy has had us on the floor laughing at the silly things he does Last edited by glenncol; 07-06-2011 at 04:01 AM. |

As I am sitting here and reading all these PUPPY posts, my husband started talking to me.
Bogart will be 4 in September and we got him when he was 9 weeks old. My husband JUST said......."Well! Bogart is sure turning into an adult dog!" He was referring to, although he is a FP (Forever Puppy).....he is now like Yellow Dog in the movie Funny Farm. I swear.......sometimes he lies in front of a door, you have to walk over him, could bump him.....and he won't move! His tail, like Yellow Dog's, could start on fire lying by the fireplace and he'd let you stomp it out without moving, but just lie there looking at you lovingly. HOWEVER!! Bring over a friend and look out!! He goes into the Doodle 500.....running around the yard, jumping in the wading pool, chasing toys and sooooo puppyISH! He is SO SMART and does his FOUR JOBS so well!! So calm, actually SMILES Okay! I want Bogart frozen in time right now!! ![]() It goes by sooooo fast........yet, your little pups will just become better and better AND better!!!

Juneau is an F1 and is an extremely hyper/excitable dog, BUT we have been going to OB classes every week since he was 3 months old (he's 10 months now) and we now know how to manage most scenarios when he gets too excited and starts being naughty. To help manage Juneau's energy we enrolled him in agility classes because if we don't keep his mind busy he will find something else which might not be as appeasing. With that being said, my Aunt has a beautiful F1b Labradoodle who is the most mellow, loving, cuddly dog ever and has the polar opposite energy level than Juneau. One of the main differences between our dogs (which I think is very evident in their personality and energy levels) is that my Aunt got hers from a wonderful breeder who is known for producing wonderful family pets, where as I got Juneau from an "oops" litter. Don't get me wrong, I love my boy and wouldn't trade him for the world, but make sure you know what you are getting! |

Nikkiey,
I think you hit the nail on the head. Find a breeder with "mellow" litters. Although even then, some may be more hyper than others. For example.....US! When we chose Bogart, my husband wanted his brother because he was more mellow. Not me! I wanted Bogart's spunkiness. I loved the way he took charge and was interested and unafraid of anything. Now this breeder is notorious for their super doodles and their ability to become therapy dogs.....which Bogart is as well as a Service Dog. But, we still paid the price and looking back, I'm glad we chose Bogart. Since I know he came from a very reputable breeder, I wasn't afraid that he'd be a "problem child". First of all, we got him at 9 weeks and winter was upon us. So, we spent a lot of time out in the cold and snow. PLUS, my dear father was in the hospital and I had to be there every single day.....leaving much of the training to DH...who really wouldn't follow my rules of training a good dog from the start. I was exhausted. Being at the hospital day and night and then coming home and trying to teach my husband how to teach the puppy! With me......my dogs were always housebroken in 3 days. PERIOD. I sooooo hated coming home to hear my husband say that Bogart had an accident. NO WAY!! I couldn't accept that! Six months later, my dear dad passed away. After things settled down, I could take charge. It was now April and the yard was still muddy and plants and small trees were all sticks. Bogart had got use to ripping out a small tree branch until he eventually killed the the tree. He would take a branch and defy me to try and get it from him. I swear, he looked at me out of the corner of his eye and dared me! But, I wouldn't play his game chasing him. All in all it was a bad time to get a pup. Winter, sick father and no time to make corrections. But it all worked out. So now we DO have a mellow and well behaved dog. It wasn't Bogart's fault any more than mine. As time has passed, I am so happy we chose Bogart over his brother. I have no idea what his brother is like, but I have a great doodle who has FOUR jobs and had to pass some pretty difficult tests and evaluations! Bottom line....find a good breeder as Nikkiey said and then be prepared to work with that puppy! Make sure the timing is right! With the winter, my dad AND....I forgot to mention, still grieving over the death of my Springer who had to be put down just 6 days before we got Bogart......the timing was bad. But.....it all worked out!
