My wife and I are considering a Standard Labradoodle to replace our beloved Lab. We live in a forested area in the Northwest that has its share of blackberries and other northwest vegitation and have concerns about the practicality of a labradoodle's coat in these kinds of situations. We would appreciate any owner feedback about the challanges of owning a dog in these circumstances.
Thanks Pat Mc |

Toby went running thru the thickets chasing after my brothers golden..and MAN, both were a mess..
Needless, i don t take him out to areas were there s alot of long grass s.. perhaps a first gn. doodle would have done better..with a straighter coat and perhaps corser it would nt be too bad.. Last edited by deepnite10; 10-07-2010 at 11:39 PM. |

I think that any dog might have problems in thick vegetation or brush. However, if your lab did okay, I believe that the Labradoodle will do fine. Do you have easy access to bath a large dog? If not, you may look for a good grooming place in your area. Have you ever red the angie's list categoriesto look locally?

We live in the city so we don't have the problem.
However, when Bogart has been out in a woody area, like any dog, he picks up burrs in his beard and legs. He is an F1 that never mats. His coat is a fleece and easy to maintain. Hope this helps.

the fleece coat is the most open one and needs less maintaince so in a forest area I would suggest fleece.
when allergy is involved (i guess not because you had a lab before) then curly is the best coat and then curly fleece would be better for you. pure curly coat catches a lot of forest mess which will take more time to remove. |
