Question Labradoodle vs. Goldendoole for mildly autistic child

[B]Do I get labradoodle or Goldendoodle puppy?
My 10 y/o son has Asperger syndrome and social interactions are a challenge. He loves animals and is very gentle with them (we have two small dogs-yorkie and pomeranian mix- and two cats). Our big dog has died recently (after 13 good years). It is time for my son to have his own friend which hopefully will serve as therapy dog as well (just for him). I have read a lot of opinion regarding which to choose labradoodle vs goldendoogle and I am at complete loss. THe only thing that all the experts agree on is the fact that goldendoodles are more hyper and their coat is more predictable. There seams to be a lot of disagreement regarding intelligence of labradoodles vs goldendoodles. I strongly believe in commitment (once we get this dog we will have him/her till the end for either party). Also any suggestions regarding female vs male dogs? Thank you for any suggestions or opinions. I do realize that I am posting this question on labradoodle forum but maybe some of you have first or second hand experience or at least knowledge that could help me.

I would suggest not trying to figure out the difference between labradoodles and goldendoodles, since it is more important to get a puppy/dog from a breeder that socialized them correctly and has chosen the right fldogs as a breeding pair. The actual temperament of the parent is more important than the breed (goldendoodle vs labradoodle).

I have sent you a pm with an email of somebody I consider an expert to help you.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. That was my general feeling. I am looking around for just the right puppy. I appreciate your kindness in referring me to an "expert". I have a hard time knowing what questions to ask. One lady have a 14 weeks old australian labradoodle that she describes as energetic and fun loving but loyal and teachable. Another breeder has a goldendoodle (8 weeks old) that is "mellow and loving" (F1). I would love to get this puppy for the summer so he/she has plenty time with the kids before school starts again. Any suggestions regarding male or female preferences? Are there any difference? What's your opinion regarding early spaying? Once again thanks for taking time to respond to my questions

I have one of each and used to have 2 goldendoodle puppies and 1 labradoodle puppy i raised at same time. BEAU a male f1 goldendoodle is with a family in Indiana from the this forum and their son has Aspergers .....he's doing GREAT now with BEAU

Peanut is a goldendoodle the cream apricot one in pic and Max is the black f1 labradoodle.

i say go with he breed you like best: golden retriever vs labrador retriver
NOW when you get to the higher generations that have been backcrossed to a poodle it may weed out a bit of the lab or golden having more poodle

Doesn't matter what generation....knowing about the breeding parents personality/temperament is utmost AND GO with what you are looking for.

i will say SOME puppies are more energetic than others but eventually they mature some take longer though to calm down.

I went for the MELLOW personality and had 1 high energy puppy but all 3 of them are calm as adults.

Male vs Female......go with what you like or sorry to hear of you loss but at same time do you want same type of personality and sex?

A good BREEDER knows their puppies really well and helps you find the right one to suit what you're looking for to fit in with your family, lifestyle, needs for your child etc. ALSO a good breeder lets you ask many questions willing to answer them to ensure their puppy gets the right home as well as YOU getting the right puppy.

OB training makes a world of difference too. AND regardless of what puppy you get , spaying or neutering is best if you aren't breeding. early vs waiting till 6 to 8mos old?
ask your vet as this is an ongoing debate. I had mine done at 6mos for Peanut female and max was 7.5mos old a male.

For me there is a difference between my F1 labradoodle and goldendoodle
the GD is very golden retriever like and loves to wag her whole body along with her tail and carries a stuffed animal in her mouth esp/when she's happy and she is a natural with kids.

my LD he was a super calm puppy easy to train esp/in OB and more.
BOTH of mine are medic alert dogs naturally and MAX without training was able
to assist me naturally for 8mos since ihad spinal cord surgery. My goldendoodle will also if i am bad off but she lets Max take the lead but that's their relationship. Peanut is great when i am sick alerting me to high fevers etc.

MY GD once peanut and beau hit the 11mo old age they calmed down immediately
Max was calm from day 1 but got energetic when he saw puppies and small kids but listens extremely well. He has more energy but isn't HYPER at all whereas Peanut seems almost lazy and can spring to life .....they're both great with our 15mos grandbaby that lives here now.

LONG STORY SHORT: go with your gut feeling and preferences. BOTH are great dogs.
I love having one of each.....my daughter's doctor has one GD puppy that was calm from day 1 and still is as well as getting 2more GD puppies from my breeder as many of the litters they dogs are therapy and/or also medic alert dogs...some being trained as i type.

our lifestyle: we're all high energy personalities that like to be couch potatoes by 9pm hahhaaaaaaa our doodles are like us and/or i say molded to our lifestyle but needed daily training as puppies as they are both VERY INTELLIGENT!

doodles are very smart, loving , comical , great with kids but do need some form of formal OB training as it stimulates their brain as welll as they're similar to raising toddlers. Positive reinforcement love, guidance, training and a sense of humor.

they can race around a house (called doodle runs) and NOT break one thing or knock anyone over, they learn quickly, and LOVE TO BE with the family at all times almost like having a velcro dog hahahhaa but their love for us is unconditional and awesome.
