I am looking for a labradoodle and a nearby pet store has what they are calling a Male F1B for sale. They state that the dog is bred from a labradoodle and a yellow lab. This would make the dog at most, 1/3 poodle. Can this still be defined as a labradoodle?
Also, we are looking for one with fleece or wool coat type, preferrably an F1B for reduced allergy problems. What type of labradoodle should we be looking for? Thanks in advance for your assistance. |

Hello and WELCOME to the forum!
Our policy here is to be careful of "certain" pet store dogs. How does one know that they are not puppy mill or BYB (Backyard breeders)? For example, in our city, we have a "certain" pet store that sells small breeds and they are REALLY expensive dogs! But, people will get papers and be able to get to know the breeder before a purchase. I would do some very deep research and ask to talk to the breeder.....and visit.......before I would purchase. Have you researched breeders in your area? I think this would be the best approach..........find a reputable breeder.

Hi and welcome to this forum!
Technically, an F1 bred to a Labrador IS an f1b, because the clinical definition of f1b is an f1 backcrossed to a parent breed - and Labrador is a parent breed, but you are correct that the 100% Lab parent will effectively limit or even close off any of the benefits of a Poodle's non-shedding or low-dander coat! There is NO WAY to tell if an F1b that is from a Poodle x Doodle breeding has truly the 75%/25% ratio that we think of in that mix, but at least the backcross has been done intelligently! Pet stores are ALWAYS suspect...if a pet store lets you meet the breeder, why not work with the breeder yourself? ![]() Labradoodles and Goldendoodles are WONDERFUL family pets because both breeds are so excellent in devotion, intellect and personality. So please look at reputable sites (such as this one) or others (breedersclub.net) or go ahead and email the breeders who have posted on this forum to talk to reputable breeders who will give real answers! I can vouch for labradoodles being wonderful. I have one of Maureen's; she's three now and wins everyone's heart when they meet her. Labradoodles are smart, eager to please, and very happy critters; I recommend them highly. Chouette is an F1B, but she is a labradoodle-poodle cross. As a result she's more poodle-y physically but she has a loving and extraverted lab personality. She doesn't shed at all.
