Default Differnce in coat

Is there a difference in coats with a F1B?I have seen photos of doodles that are an F1B but some have a more woolly coat and have more of a poodle face. And some I have seen that have more of a "Benji" face but have a curly or fleece coat. How do you know what it will be?Would the breeder know this?

I did a search and this is one thread I found. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11674&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=dif ferences+in+coats

If you search there have been several discussions about this. What I got from reading the comments was trust your breeder but each dog is different. I hope this helps.

Thank you that does help.So really no one can really say for sue what the texture will be. if you are getting an F1B you may have a really curly coat or just a wave.

By 6-8 weeks old, before your puppy goes home with you, you should be able to tell the really curly F1b coats from the flatter slightly wavy coats F1b, and if it isnt one of those two it will be somewhere in between. Texture wise, things can change between puppy coat and adult coat, but for the most part you can tell by feel if it is fleecey/silky soft or lambs wool, or even a throw back hair coat.

Beck's coat is very soft, almost like nylon fur on a stuffed animal. He's approaching 4 months and there is no coarseness in his coat, but it is slightly less curly than it was when he was younger- so, what would you expect when he gets his adult coat?

Beck had a curly wool coat when he left, like a little lamb, text book ALAA "The Wool textured coat is like a lamb’s wool in texture. It should have the appearance of looser spiralling wool, which opens up easily to the skin. It should not appear thick and dense or tightly curled." He was curly, but not like a poodle puppy, so looser spiraling curls, I think I described them as "ringlets" once they grow out. I will google image search a pic later.

A lady I met at a pet store said Beck has a 'new wool' coat which I never heard of before, she thought he was multi-gen but I didn't ask her why she thought that (in retrospect I should have). She said that 'new wool' labradoodles 'throw' beautiful fleece puppies I am not sure of how a 'new wool' dog can end up with a fleece puppy, or even if this lady knew what she was talking about

I wonder if she meant "Spiral Fleece"?
Check out this page.... http://www.labradoodleasd.com/ASD-CoatsandColors.htm
Pull the page down to "coat types".
