I get "why a labradoodle?" questions all the time. I answer them with "we LOVE LOVE LOVE labrador's but wanted a lab personality that didnt shed". Doodles RULE!

Thanks for so many nice replies. I guess my experience isn't unique. We are so looking forward to puppy's arrival, I started to second guess myself with some of the weird responses I've gotten from people asking about our new family member.

Someone asked whether we have named our puppy yet. Well, we talk about it day and night, but we just can't settle on one that all 4 of us like. We have 1.5 weeks left to find the perfect name, for what I am sure will be the perfect puppy. I'll post a picture . . . once I figure out how. She is so cute, and you can see that my kids are just smitten.

Aw, Julia, we will be so happy for you when you get your puppy and, of course, we MUST see pictures!

You know, sometimes a name just has to wait for the puppy to tell you what it is. )

You can give him/her one or ten names now...and your smart pup will learn them all...and chances are, one of the names you never expected will just "fit"!

There are some great posts on this forum about names...see if a search will bring them up for you. It might help you get some ideas.

We are happy that you joined us and we look forward to hearing all about your baby!

And if you pick a name and it doesnt feel right, you can always change it. Gus was called Root Beer before we got him, and we changed that ASAP and he picked it up really well.

Now, I have never before heard of a puppy being called "Root Beer" !!

I think I'd change it fast, too!! Pepsi, Coke, Cola/Kola Dr. Pepper, Sprite, Shasta,
But, Not: Ginger Ale, unless you drop the ale
Not: 7-Up
Not: Hawaiian Punch ( Punch or Punchie ?)
Not: Lemonade
Not: .......What am I talking about???
I am thinking out loud about puppy names....
Maybe I should get one soon.

Have Fun! with naming your new doodle !! Can't wait to hear what you pick!!
When I picture the doodles I have met on this forum....to me, they all seem to "fit" their name.

Jane, that is funny!
I gave someone a Doodle once (they had just lost their dog and were heartbroken) and the pup was black (imagine that, ME having black doodles!) and they named her Lemon! hahahaha
It had to do with the husband having a thing for lemons that year...bought them a lot, made all sorts of lemon goodies...so they thought it would be funny to call her Lemon...and it stuck! They call her Lemon Meringue! You just never know!
Root Beer is one odd name, though, I have to admit...but this, from someone who calls her Goldendoodle "Bean".

Hey,

Yep, was stressing all day because of article I read in Puppy Canada magazine today. We should be getting our Labradoodle puppy in April. We almost got a lab pup a few springs ago but my son had an allergic reaction. Since then we've volunteered with assistance dogs to get our puppy-fix. Finally, got excited about labradoodles and did some research on breeders in our area...and then paid our deposit. Then started reading all the negative stuff about being "mutts" etc. Felt better after reading some of these replies...but was getting serious cold feet for sure!

I'm new here but I know a bit about dogs. Every dog is a mutt at the beginning until they make it a "purebred" and the "doodles" just recently (last 15-20 years I think) they might make it a purebred in the future. Their purpose for being bred was for allergic people and good for special needs as many have allergies to the labs and goldens. Some poodles are used for special needs but they are very energetic and "nutty" so to improve a new breed they crossed the Poodle and the Golden to calm it down and make it hypo-allergenic (depending on hair). So I wouldn't worried. I'm not ashamed to have a Goldendoodle.
I have a 4 month old female Golden Retriever. Our F1 Goldendoodle (who we recently adopted) are similar but different in certain ways. Captain, our Doodle picked up the Poodles barking habits which we are trying to control. He is a bit more "nutty". But they are the best of friends.

Since Max goes everywhere with me, YES i get a bit of slack on and off BUT MORE from a secty and NOT people I meet. I waited almost 10yrs to get a labradoodle as i fostered dogs for over 25yrs till I got severe allergies then my son had bad asthma!

Next was my teenagers would have responsibility yet companionship on the days I worked late. I worked close to home so i was able to be with them in mornings, at one time i worked out of house sO i raised 3 doodle puppies back then.

lastly, Once we got MAX we all fell in love with "DOODLES" they're great and we love having "velcro" dogs LOL Peanut is goofy at times where as max plays mailman to this day. He every few months take mail off table and delivers it to peanut WHO sorts out the mail I SHOULD READ.

the Loving, comical yet highly intelligent ways with wanting to be a part of the family...WOW who can resist a doodle! PLUS when asked if they're a designer dog? I say YES, they were designed just for me and my family! : )

originally tho i grew up at one time w/std poodles but c/not keep up with grooming, thus waited till one day Max and peanut and then Beau just seemed to land in our lap. I worked with my Breeder for 4yrs. IF i had the money i'd have more than 2 doodles!

Hi everyone, as of today I became the proud owner of a Ladradoodle. Our new addition to our little family is arriving tomorrow and I'm very excited to him arrive. Still have to think of a name for him~ any suggestions will be greatly appreciated ~ ty.

Im just wondering do Labradoodle owners receive so much slack? What on earth is wrong with owning a Labradoodle?

And what is considered to be "too expensive" a price to pay for a Labradoodle?

Thank you for allowing me to join your lovely group and looking forward to reading lots of hints and tips to help care for my new bundle of joy

CONGRATULATIONS! WELCOME TO OUR WONDERFUL FORUM!!

Did your puppy arrive yet? We'd love to see some pictures of him!!

There's absolutely everything RIGHT about a doodle......nothing wrong. Just some people who love to create a problem by putting a doodle down. SHEESH!!
