We are a Kansas city couple looking for a Goldendoodle or a Labradoodle........I have seen a bunch of what appears to be great breeders around the country. We are foremost looking for the right breeder, then the right dog. Sure we have color preferences but the bottom line is that every Goldendoodle or Labradoodle weve seen.....we like. We do worry about getting a healthy dog and now we are wondering if the size of the dog has bearing on the overall temperament and health of the dog.........your thoughts?

the mini doodles i've met appear to have same personalities and traits as the bigger standard doodles i know.
I say choose either Labradoodle or Goldendoodle based on breeder and then temperament you want (aka type of personality in a dog). also which do you like better golden retrievers or labrador retrievers? or doesn't it matter? as if it does then lean towards that kind of doodle if you're looking at the F1 generations meaning retriever crossed with poodle. I have one of each Max f1 LD and Peanut a f1 GD. and size? depending on structure and height , 2 dogs same weight can look totally different in size depending of they are more of poodle or retreiver build and then their height. Peanut my cream GD is only 23in tall and 60lb but build like a tank, broad not skinny when wet and when her coat is not clipped down she looks more like 90lbs than her 60lb weight hahaaaaaaaaaa I went for the more laid back, easy going and more submissive(not dominant) personalities as i figured i'd be living with them for the next 10 to 15years and they're the best dogs i've ever had and soooo sweet lovign and comical GOOD LUCK

You are getting some very good information. We have a f1 labradoodle and we love her. Be sure if you are looking for less likely to shed to consider f1b as our Tia sheds a lot. The f1 is lab to poodle the f1b is labradoodle/goldendoodle to poodle (at least that is how it was explained to me). Good luck and when you find one be sure to let us know with pictures! Loads of pictures, we love pictures and stories!

I have 2 labradoodles, both f1's Denver is x-large with an awesome gentle personality
Ryder is 5 months old today and looks like he will be a large Doodle as well, he also is a very sweet dog with a lot of cheeky monkey in him...........Go for temperment for sure and they do come in many sizes, but I do not think size makes a difference in personality, it is the parents they come from . Just make sure you go with a reputable breeder.............. |

we have an F1B LD - because we had a preference for a "labby" personality - Hamish is built a bit more Poodly -but don't tell him!!! - He''s about average size for a labradoodle - 24 inches and 50#'s at 7 months old - I haven't heard that size has any health bearings - if both the parents have had the necessary testings. On the other hand I've also loved every Goldendoodle I've ever met too!! - Hopefully our very knowledgable breeders will pipe in with health testing and breeding for temperament. You'll find the perfect fit - as long as you keep asking the temperament and health questions up front!!

I breed both, Labradoodles and Goldendoodles (and I plan to breed North American Retrievers, I have breed one litter and they are great...they are Goldendoodle and Labradoodle cross.)
I breed standard sized dogs because we provide service dogs...and I will agree with the others that it isn't the size that determines temperament...it is the breeder! If the breeder carefully selects the parent dogs based on temperament, among other things, and if the breeder stimulates the puppies and socializes the puppies to human contact and exposes the puppies to as many experiences and sounds as possible, the pup will have the best possible chance to be an excellent dog...BUT it goes further...you are the next important factor. You have to be committed to proper socialization and training. You need to teach your dog and your family how to be a unit and respect one another. If the puppy is respected and protected, you will likely get an adult dog that is respectful and loving toward your family and visitors. Best wishes to you in your search....sounds like you are ready to make a commitment. Doodles are great dogs...but there is no substitution for good breeding and proper rearing of the puppy! |

Thank you for your replies.......We have put down a deposit on a Goldendoodle from fourpawsdoodles/Kansas. We opted for the opportunity to pick a puppy from a litter of Chocolate F1 Moyen pups that are due on Feb 12th. We are very excited. We will be posting pics on this site in the future.
