I have been reading and reading and still cannot decide between a goldendoodle vs a labradoodle.
I have mild allegies to our old basset hound. She is 12 years old and her dander bothers me. So my vet suggested a standard poodle when I told her we were looking for a dog for our daughters. She thought given our active girls they would be a good choice. My husband does not like the looks of a standard poodle and says every standard poodle he has met was "flightly and skittish". He would not mind a doodle cross. The basset hound belongs to my older sons who are in college. She tolerates the girls but is clearly in love with the big guys. She lives for their visits. The girls are heartbroken by her attitude- even though she tolerates "dress-up" for brief periods! My girls are 4 and 7 years old. The 7 year old would like a dog that she can do obedience training for 4H and who loves her the way Heidi loves her big brothers. My 4 year old wants someone "soft" and "happy". I want a mellow dog but one that is happy to hike to the river and beach and play. My husband want a dog who is mellow and loving with others- so well socialized from birth. Our dogs have lived 15-16 years so we want to choose carefully. any suggestions or advice gratefully accepted. We live on the Mendocino Coast in northern California PLEASE PM ME AN INFO............THANK YOU Maureen

Well everyone here is gonna tell ya to go for a Labradoodle or
Goldendoodle......they truly are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We all love these dogs very much and are so happy that we chose this breed. Many here are double and triple Doodle owners so that should tell ya something I myself am expecting my second Doodle in about 2 weeks....... Happy searching, lots of excellent breeders on this site as well as owners. |

Thank you!
They look really sweet. we have met a few and the local owner of a cute golden doodle, who I met, referred me to where he got his dog. They have a website and list many types of doodle mixes. When I contacted the breeder she sounded annoyed that I wanted to know the personalities and see pictures of the parents. She has not gotten back to me. Am I asking the wrong questions? I thought knowing the personalities of the parents would be helpful to knowing what the puppies might be like. We are not choosing on basis of color or sex and it sounds like we don't get to go "pick" from a litter. I am so happy to find this site. I am reading different threads and trying to figure out how best to go about finding a breeder who not only has a puppy available this fall but also will work with me on matching a puppy who will fit into our family well. Maureen

I assume Mendocino Coast is in California? There are some wonderful breeders on this site from CA so you should be able to find one that has what you are looking for. And they will not be annoyed with any of your questions cause they spend a lot of time answering ours!!
Best of luck. Let us know what you decide and welcome!!

I know this is kind-of an old post and I'm a late comer, but I just read it and had to say......I would stay FAR, FAR away from any breeder who gets annoyed with you asking a lot of questions. I tried working with one breeder who always seemed to be hassled when I asked a question, and she never really gave me straight answers. It wasn't a pleasant experience, particularly considering that all of her puppies later contracted the parvo virus and died.
Now I'm getting a puppy from a different breeder, one that came highly recommended from a few people on this forum, and she has welcomed any and all questions I've had and has gone above and beyond in helping me out. (I'd recommend her to you, but she's in Ohio and I'm not sure if she's having any more puppies this fall anyway). Follow your gut, and don't try to work with someone who makes you feel uncomfortable. From what I can tell, the relationship between a breeder and a new owner should be one that lasts a long time. |

A breeder who gets annoyed with questions??? We love questions being asked of us, it sometimes shows us who is educated and makes us feel more comfortable having them adopt pups from us. I say the more the better. We are expecting a couple to visit us today to meet our dogs. I love that too, face to face meetings. I say ask away, and then you be the judge at how well the breeder performs. Interviews are necessary for you to choose the dog that will bring you much love and happiness for many years..We realize purchasing a Labradoodle is an Investment, so do your homework & then you will find that perfect breeder who truly cares about your concerns. A good breeder should welcome it.

Maureen, I have tried to contact you through a PM but have had no response from you. I am in northern CA (used to be in Mendocino County) and I am always happy to talk with people about these dogs...whether or not they buy from me. So, if you have not yet had sufficient answers to your questions, please feel free to contact me. (You can click on the PM button on this post.)
